C.No.IV (16) Tech/DIII/144/06 Dated:-
TRADE NOTICE No. 20/2006
Sub: Mention of the Assessee code mandatory on TR-6/GAR-7 – Reg.
| It is
brought to the notice of all the members of Trade and Industry that a
pilot project for implementation of Electronic Accounting System in
Excise and Service Tax (EASIEST) is operational in Delhi Zone. During
monitoring of the project, it is observed that the issue of poor quality
of data with errors and omission in data field at the data capture stage
is obstructing the operational credibility of the system. Moreover, many
assessees do not fill up the assessee code column in the challan or
write some inaccurate or incomplete code.
In this matter, it may be recollected that a web based utility has been developed by NIC in consultation with the Directorate of Systems whereby an assessee can generate his duty paid challan. The website http://exciseand servicetax.nic.in and the departmental website http://sermon.nic.in can be accessed by the assesses as well as by the departmental officers.
In this regard, it has already been clarified that the use of pre-printed challans by the department is not mandatory and the assessees can however continue using their own pre-printed challans.
Now in order to smoothen the course of the project (EASIEST) and successful completion thereof, the Board has approved and accepted the recommendation of the High Power Committee on EASIEST. Therefore, as approved by the Board, it is emphasized on all assesses to use pre-printed challans to improve data quality, compulsorily mentioning complete and accurate assessee codes, failing which it is liable that the bank will not accept the payment. Field formations are also directed to check and update the Assessee code directories.
